Mounting a KMC chain on a Campagnolo indexing

KMC produces channels compatible with all indexations. Here’s how to mount a KMC X 11 SL chain on a Campagnolo transmission!

The tools

To ensure the assembly of a KMC chain, you will need a minimum of equipment. Just a solid chain drift to cut the chain, and your hands to ensure its locking.

Time and difficulty

Assuming that everything is disassembled and clean, you will have it for 10 minutes at most. And in terms of difficulty we are in the easy anyway. The most complicated thing is often the opening of the fast link!

Stage 1

We start by passing the chain in the front derailleur.

Stage 2

The chain is then inserted into the rear derailleur by passing under the ergots of the rear derailleur. The one with the upper wheel…

Stage 3

Then the one with the lower wheel.

It is easy to pass over the ergots…
If the chain is above, it is best to open it to iron it.

If you cannot disassemble the chain, you can disassemble the pulleys to iron the chain where necessary. But everything will have to be tightened firmly.

Stage 4

To determine the right length of chain, you must put yourself on the small chainring and the small sprocket.

Stage 5

The chain must be tight enough to go to about one cm from the upper pulley.

Stage 6

When you are at the right length, you cut. We remember that we must have an internal link at each end…

Stage 7

The fast link has no direction of assembly. The chain either.

The quick link is then set up. We must fight against the tension of the derailleur. We can also remove the rear wheel, it will be much easier then!

Stage 9

We will bring the fast link to the upper part of the chain. And the locked rear wheel we will press the crank to lock the link.

Stage 10

After the small « clack », it will be visually checked that the pads are properly placed.

When everything is in place, it will be necessary to check that the chain rolls up without a hard point and that the indexation is always well adjusted. The assembly of the KMC chain is then finished!
