Support point but also control area, brake levers require adequate positioning to be « comfortable » and efficient…

The installation of Campagnolo Ergopower levers does not require a specific tool, it is enough to have a meter, a spirit level and a Torx T 25 key. Neither too long nor too short…
Time and difficulty
There is nothing complex here, we loosen, place and tighten. The only difficulty lies in the handling of the cover, which can be very firm and annoying to lift. So count 20-30 minutes in total.
The clamping screw is first cleared from the collar. You have to « fight » against the cover to lift it up. If we have a very long key we can go through the front of the lever but we will be embarrassed by the bump of the latter.
The Torx T25 screw of the collar is slightly but sufficiently loosened. We avoid bringing it down. Otherwise, you will have to be careful when you put it back, there is an engraved arrow on it that indicates the correct position.
We then put the hanger in the collar. It is at this moment that we discover that the hangers are not perfectly flat… It is often necessary to loosen the collar a little more to slide the lever…
No miracle, the lever does not slide naturally. It must be moved from left to right and from right to left to make it « mount » by « screwing ». It is therefore necessary to unscrew the collar sufficiently otherwise it will mark the hanger. Always delicate if it is made of aluminum, damaging if it is made of carbon.
once in good position we tighten the lever a little so that it holds in place the time of the final positioning.
The second lever was placed on the other side. Now all that remains is to position the 2 as you want and above all in the same way! To do this, you can use a bubble level by leaning on the tops of the hanger and lever. The covers are put back in position.
We do the same checks on the other side and adjust the position of each lever.
Some hangers have a graduation. For the « altitude » of the levers, they can be used precisely.
One meter can also be used to measure the distance between the lower part of the lever and the end of the hanger. It’s pretty precise, but not at first! The seamstress meter is almost easier to master.
Once placed « at the right height », we will make sure that the orientation of the lever corresponds to what you expect from it. It is also necessary to take into account the manufacturer’s instructions, which may need a certain position for the gear lever to be efficient. We adjust, and compare the two sides.
When everything is well placed, all that remains is to fix the whole in a stable way.
The cover is carefully lifted from the front so as not to move the settings. Be careful, it is very firm and it is not easy to handle.
We are now tightening the Torx T25 screw. Using a torque wrench would be a plus, but the position of the screw does not facilitate this use…
On the cover there are small lugs that take place in the lever. Care must be taken to put them in their homes. Otherwise, the cover will not be well anchored on the lever.
All that remains is to check that nothing moved during the tightening… If this is the case, we start again.
