The installation of the Shimano bowls is not complicated, but there are a few precautions to take!
The tools
To disassemble and assemble Shimano bowls, you will need grease, a cloth, a bowl wrench and probably an adapter if you have the latest generation bowls. Good news, it comes with the bowls at the time of purchase!

Time and difficulty
A small quarter of an hour will be required for this handling, including cleaning. If you have the tools, everything happens easily. We must be able to set up the bowls by hand. If not, there is a problem! There is a problem!
Stage 1
To disassemble the bowls, you can start from any side of the bike. Here we are on the left. The adapter is stored in the key and the assembly is placed on the bowl. Before forcing, we check that everything is well nested!

The wrench is positioned horizontally towards the front of the bike. We then push down. You have to force a little.
Stage 2
We do the same on the right side. If the bike has ridden a lot, it is possible that you have to use the wrench to the end to remove the bowls!

Stage 3

When the bowls are removed, a cloth is passed to remove all dirt. If necessary, we put degreaser.
Stage 4
We grease the threads abundantly when they are clean!

Stage 5
Stage 6

We will grease the inside of the bowls at the tunnel. Here on the right, we do the same with the left.
Stage 7
Then we will set up the tunnel on the right bowl. It is flattened so that it is well aligned with the left bowl. Lubrication is only used to optimize the tightness of the assembly.

Stage 8

Screw the right bowl by hand as far as possible in this direction.
Stage 9
We do the same with the left bowl.

If we can’t insert the bowls into the thread, there’s a chance we’re wrong! If the clamping blocks in progress, either the threads are not clean or the bowl has entered wrong. It can happen, we don’t force, we disassemble and we start again…
Stage 10

We tighten the right bowl counterclockwise.
Stage 11
And the left clockwise..

Disassembly and assembly of Shimano bowls are not tricky operations. There is nothing more to do. The bearings have no play when they are new! So if during the assembly of the pedalboard there are any, it will be necessary to review the assembly of the cranks…
